DEEP IIoT is a sub-project funded by the open call for tenders of the IoT-NGIN project.

IoT-NGIN has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (grant agreement no. 957246).

IoT-NGIN introduces novel research and innovation concepts, acting as the “IoT Engine” which will fuel the Next Generation of IoT as a part of the European Next Generation Internet.

IoT-NGIN uncovers a patterns based meta-architecture that encompasses evolving, legacy, and future IoT architectures. The project also optimizes IoT/M2M and 5G/MCM communications, including using secure-by-design micro-services to extend the edge cloud paradigm.

Moreover, it enables IoT systems to be self-aware and autonomous through privacy-preserving federated ML and ambient intelligence with AR support for humans. Distributed IoT cybersecurity and privacy, for example, using Self-Sovereign Identities and interconnected DLTs to implement Meta-Level Digital Twins, are also among the main priorities of IoT-NGIN.

The proposed solution will allow the IoT-NGIN consortium to integrate an industrial prototyping IIoT platform, taking part into the 6TRON ecosystem and be able to set up a new family of IIoT assets compliant with the IoTNGIN meta-architecture. This will have a direct impact on the European SMEs.

The solution provided will support SMEs in the open call #2 with a rapid industrial prototyping environment that reduce costs, delays, and effort in the industrialization process. The DEEP IIoT project will support CATIE in its 6TRON roadmap and embedded AI technologies, allowing at short term the development of:

  • Data-frugal learning strategies capable of both minimizing the amount of data needed and supplementing existing data; and at the level of the embedded system, the development of embedded learning algorithms allowing iterative, regular or even federative (distributed) learning.
  • Tools adapted to the embedded field and based in Europe: contributing to the development of sovereign tool chains making it possible to go from rapid prototyping solutions in the cloud, possibly on local, private servers, to embedded solutions optimizing the implementation, assisting the design and configuration of architectures.

OUR ROLE

CATIE, part of IoT-NGIN Open Call #1 winners, will exploit and advance the IoT-NGIN meta-architecture and will support new use cases integration in the living labs.

We will adapt and fine-tune the 6TRON platform to be fully compliant with the IoT-NGIN meta-architecture.

We will develop a specific 6TRON starter kit that will be used to prototype an IIoT solution in line with the IoT-NGIN use-cases and living labs.
